The David Pettigrew Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce its ninth season sponsoring mountain safety workshops. The course will also be sponsored by the Association of Professional Patrollers (APP) with the support and collaboration of Stevens Pass, The Summit at Snoqualmie and Mission Ridge. The courses are FREE and open to the public with the schedule listed below. All classes are from 9am - 1pm.

The Mountain Safety and Awareness Workshop will emphasize ski area basics (know the code), skiing with buddies, tree well and deep snow safety and basic first-aid. Class size will be limited to no more than 25 students per class, and there will be at least three instructors for each class.

The Companion Rescue Workshop will cover beacon operations (fundamentals, coarse search, fine search and practice), probes usage, strategic shoveling and putting it all together with a mock search and rescue.

The Avalanche Awareness Workshop will cover basic avalanche fundamentals and terminology, how to recognize and avoid avalanche terrain, identify red flags and weather conditions, how layered snow contributes, basic companion rescue, avalanche and control techniques and boundaries.

The primary instructors will be Angela Seidling (an APP Certified Ski Patroller at Stevens Pass and Certified Wilderness First Responder, and ARIARE Level 1 Instructor) and Steve Kunnen (Stevens Pass Pro Patroller for 19 years, ARIARE Avalanche Instructor, Stevens Pass Mountain Education Instructor, and former PSA Instructor).
