Snow Safety Workshops

Thank you for your interest in our new Stevens Pass Snow Safety Program!  We are proud to offer these snow safety educational classes at Stevens Pass.  These classes are 8 hours long and cost $125.00 per person (ticket included) and are being held at Stevens Pass Resort.   These classes are being sponsored by the Stevens Pass Patrol.  Classes are limited to a 6:1 ratio of student to instructors to ensure a quality experience.

Topics:

Weather / Terrain / Snow Pack / Snow Pit Analysis / Snow Stability Tests / Avalanche Beacons / Probes / Digging / Snow Travel / Route Finding / Touring

Classes:
  • Avalanche Awareness I :  An introduction to the topics listed above.  A combination of inside learning and discussion and the rest of the day in the field practicing skills. All students are required to have skis or snowboard.
  • Avalanche Awareness II :  Same topics covered in the Avalanche Awareness I class, but on an actual tour in the field.   We not only teach the skills but actually put them to use in a day tour in areas around Stevens Pass.  This class is a great extension of skills learned in the Avalanche Awareness I class.  All students are required to have touring gear for this class including skis & skins, split board or snowboard/snowshoes.
Class Schedule:img_ski-board_safety-jm-sm

• Awareness I:  Sunday: January 24; February 14; March 7, 28 - Minimum of 3 students per class. 8:30 am – 3:00pm
• Awareness II: Saturday:  January 30; March 13 - Minimum of 3 students per class.  8:30 am – 3:00pm

All Classes will be held in the Iron Goat Pizzeria in the Pacific Crest Lodge.

Requirements and Other Information:

All students are required to be an intermediate to advanced skier or snowboarder to participate in our classes.  Everyone will need an avalanche beacon, a probe, and a snow shovel.  All students must come with the appropriate clothing to stay outside all day (brrrr) and be comfortable.  We eat lunch in the field so a brown bag lunch is essential.

  • You must pre-register for classes by calling our friendly Sales & Reservations staff at 206-812-4510 ext. 4200.  There is a minimum of 3 people per class, so you may be rescheduled to a different class day if registration falls short for a specific date.
  • Release of Liability is required.  Minors (under 18) must have a parent or guardian signed Release of Liability.  Download Release
  • Registration, payment and signed release are required prior to class.
  • With receipt of payment, students will be eligible for on-mountain discounts for specified gear at our retail shop.

Feel free to contact us at snowsafety@stevenspass.com if you have any questions or concerns. We can also custom fit classes to our students if there is enough demand.
