Snow Safety Workshops
Thank you for your interest in our new Stevens Pass Snow Safety Program! We are proud to offer these snow safety educational classes at Stevens Pass. These classes are 8 hours long and cost $120.00 per person (ticket included) and are being held in and around the Stevens Pass area. These classes are being sponsored by the Stevens Pass Patrol. Classes are limited to a 5:1 ratio of student to instructors to ensure a quality experience.
Topics:
Weather / Terrain / Snow Pack / Snow Pit Analysis / Snow Stability Tests / Avalanche Beacons / Probes / Digging / Snow Travel / Route Finding / Touring
Classes:
- Avalanche Awareness I : An introduction to the topics listed above. A combination of inside learning and discussion and the rest of the day in the field practicing skills.
- Avalanche Awareness II : Same topics covered in the Avalanche Awareness I class, but on an actual tour in the field. We not only teach the skills but actually put them to use in a day tour in areas around Stevens Pass. This class is a great extension of skills learned in the Avalanche Awareness I class. All students are required to have touring gear for this class.
Class Schedule:
TBD
Requirements and Other Information:
All students are required to be an intermediate to advanced skier or snowboarder to participate in our classes. Everyone will need an avalanche beacon, a probe, and a snow shovel. All students must come with the appropriate clothing to stay outside all day (brrrr) and be comfortable. We eat lunch in the field so a brown bag lunch is essential. We strongly recommend reading, “The Avalanche Handbook” by David McClung and Peter Schaerer, prior to class.
We have a special offer through ProSki Service in Seattle where anyone enrolled in the class can receive up to 30% off retail price on the gear you need to take the course. After you have completed the course ProSki will offer a discount to you on the rest of the gear you need to stay happy on your tours.
